Thank you for your interest in attending AHRMM20+, September 22-October 8! Now that the event is virtual, it's even easier to join from the comfort of your own home or office!
Providing a justification to management is a key part of securing your attendance at AHRMM20+ -- and it may be even more important now that the event is virtual. We understand that budgets are tight and it can be challenging to get approval to attend a conference. AHRMM20+ is the place to discover the latest leading practices and to learn how other organizations are tackling the same challenges that your organization faces with innovative approaches so we hope that you’ll be able to join us.
To help, we’ve put together these tools and tips for securing your supervisor's support:
It's important to show your supervisor why your attendance will benefit not just you, but your entire team. Think of your organization’s specific goals and needs and then review the program schedule to figure out what sessions you should take to boost efforts to accomplish these goals. When speaking with your employer about attending the conference, focus on what you will bring back to demonstrate return on the investment.
Which topics or sessions are particularly relevant to your job, department or organization’s current priorities, goals and needs? Are there sessions that will provide insight into a particular challenge or goal your organization is facing right now, or expects to face in the next 12 months? Identify specifically what you can use, and how.
Which of the sessions are most relevant to your skill development or goals? What new skills, techniques or approaches will you bring back?
Send the letter to your supervisor explaining all of the benefits you'll get from attending AHRMM20+, how they will enhance your performance, and help advance your organization. Include a list of exhibitors you intend to meet to discuss their products and services and how they may benefit your organization. Ask for input on which sessions and vendor information your supervisor feels would benefit the institution the most.
We have put together a sample letter to get things started for you. Feel free to customize and tweak it as you need.
If you are working to obtain or maintain your CMRP designation, remind your supervisor that this is a great way to earn continuing education credits (CECs) in one event. You can earn approximately 11 CECs for as low as $249 (member’s registration rate prior September 4).
Be ready with a plan that identifies who will handle your responsibilities while you are attending the conference. Ensure your employer that due to the virtual format of the event, you will be accessible and be able to remain onsite fulfilling your essential role.
Make sure to highlight networking benefits and how AHRMM20+ will enable you to virtually interact with health care supply chain professionals in similar roles and organizations from around the country. You will be able to take the pulse of what your peer organizations are doing in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, collect critical lessons learned and come up with innovative strategies for the days ahead.
Plan to visit the virtual Exhibit Hall to engage with vendors and attend product demonstrations to gain a broader perspective of the latest products and technology solutions advancing health care.
Note that this is an excellent opportunity to collect first-hand information, compare products and discover new vendors as well as connect with existing ones.
Offer to deliver a short presentation or written report for your colleagues to share what you've learned and multiply the benefits of attendance.
There are many advantages of attending AHRMM’s event virtually:
A virtual event allows for a more flexible schedule throughout the three conference weeks, allowing you to drop in and out as needed.
In case you miss a session, presentations will be recorded, allowing you to access them on-demand for approximately nine months after the live event.
AHRMM20+ will be highly interactive with live Q&A sessions and networking rooms where you'll connect with many attendees and exhibitors.
Save on travel expenses and time out of the office, while still getting many of the same benefits as an in-person conference and exhibition and staying safe & healthy at the same time.
